WhatsApp is being talked about by netizens because of the new privacy requirements it has issued. Users are forced to agree to allow data such as phone numbers and locations to be shared on Facebook.
Other data that will be shared with Facebook includes transaction data, service information, interaction information, mobile device information, IP address and other information.
If the user does not agree, they will no longer be able to use WhatsApp starting February 8, 2021. A number of netizens have suggested that they "move" to Telegram and Signal.
WhatsApp's new privacy policy: What changes and why it's a worry
Why has WhatsApp done this? Facebook Inc has been working to integrate services across Facebook (the social platform), FB Messenger, Instagram (FB bought it in 2012) and WhatsApp. Mark Zuckerberg announced this in October 2020. Instagram and Facebook Messenger are already integrated
Reported by Reuters, this suggestion appears to be received well. The proof is that the Telegram and Signal applications have reported an increase in usage since Thursday (7/1/2021).
Moreover, Elon Musk, who was recently ordained as the world's richest person, also supports the use of Signal, an application that does not collect any data from users.
More than 100,000 users installed Signal across Apple and Google app stores in the last two days, while Telegram received nearly 2.2 million downloads, according to data analyst firm Sensor Tower.
New installations of the WhatsApp app fell 11 percent in the first seven days of 2021 compared to the previous week, although they still numbered around 10.5 million downloads globally, Sensor Tower said.
